On the 31st of August – 2nd September 2018 the Dragon World Championships, the world’s only team SUP racing event, arrived on the mystical mountain lined shores of Lake Fuschl, Austria.
The Dragon World Championships 2018 promises to be the most entertaining SUP event on the planet with headline partner Nike Swim joining the ride and a total prize package of over £7,000/$9,000 up for grabs, this event will be a true celebration of SUP and style.
One regular Saturday morning in the middle of Latvia in Vaidava, Koceni parish the largest dedicated SUP event "SUP Fests 2018" took place. With the weekend dedicated to SUP fun, racing and music, excitement was high for the ultimate team SUP race on the 22ft inflatable Red Paddle Co Dragon. Some teams had been training for months, some were formed on the spot (having to test their team spirit in just a few hours time), but all 11 teams were ready to take on the challenge to unleash the dragon.

The countdown has officially begun for the Dragon World Championships 2018, the world’s only dedicated SUP team racing event, where anyone can enter. Red Paddle Co Racing are inviting paddle boarders from all over the world to come together and join them in Lake Fuschl, Austria and with entries flooding in we decided to catch up with the team on everything Dragon!
Tuesday 1st May 2018 fourteen teams from across Russia descended on Novorossiysk to battle in the ultimate SUP race to be crowned the Dragon World Series Novorssiysk champion.
With teams from Moscow, Tomsk, Tuapse, Sochi and Novorossiysk having victory within their grasp, anticipation was high as the semi-finals began. Following a burst of speed at the start and a neck and neck race, team Four Axes disappointingly fell into the water at the finish line. This led to them facing team Zmey Gorynich in the race for 3rd place which proved to be an epic battle.

Monday 30th October 2017, a day for some when dreams would come true and for others victory would slip from grasp. This was it, the culmination of months of training would come down to just four heats. Four races which would decide the course of history and crown the first ever Dragon World Champions!
Sunday 29th October 2017 – 5.00am – Despite the fact that the first rays of light were only just skimming the horizon, the day was already warm and the Red Paddle Co team were working hard to prepare for the day to come. Today was the result of 12 months preparation. Today was the start of the Dragon World Championship, a tournament which would crown the first ever team SUP champions!
$6,000 USD prize purse for the Dragon World Championships confirmed! The event will be the first of its kind and the first ever dedicated, global team race event. Taking place in Carlisle Bay, Barbados on 28th – 30th October 2017 the inaugural competition will see teams of all abilities, from all over the world battling it out to be crowned the victors.
The Red Dragon made an appearance at the SUP Festival in Latvia last week. With seven teams participating all completed two laps of a 7km course. With the final two teams battling it out in a head to head sprint to be crowned champion! It was team Gain Fast who conquered and came out victorious!
The beautiful coast of Cambrils, Spain hosted an epic Dragon World Series Event. With 11 teams turning out in full force to conquer the new team sport, the energy from participants and spectators were high.
